A louterion is an ancient Greek water basin with elaborate decoration. It’s encountered as dedications to healing deities and used for washing face, hands and body during religious purifications and burial ceremonies.

 

Conceptually all the sounds were sourced from field recordings, recorded in and around a modern water basin - the sink. All sounds were recorded with a super-directional shotgun microphone, including a bidirectional side microphone, a geophone and a hydrophone.
